Mesmerism is a therapeutic method of communication of human power upon the human organism by a well-intentioned person powerfully exerting his will. The means by which the power is communicated is called passes. Mesmerism was developed by Franz Anton Mesmer, a physician who worked with a vital, moving “universal fluid” that was present everywhere and could affect the health and well-being of people.
Homeopathy is a system of medicine that is based on the principle of “like cures like”, meaning that a substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person can cure those symptoms in a sick person. Homeopathy was founded by Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician who was influenced by the ideas of Mesmer and Swedenborg.
The necessity of mesmerism in homeopathy can be understood from the following points:
1. Mesmerism can act homoeopathically by producing symptoms similar to those of the diseased states to be cured. It can also distribute the vital force uniformly throughout the organism, when it is in abnormal excess in one part and deficient in other parts. It can also restore the vital force to some weakened part or to the whole organism.
2. Mesmerism can be used as an ancillary measure in cases where homeopathic remedies are not sufficient or available. For example, Hahnemann suggested using positive mesmerism (influx of more or less vital force into the patient) in cases of uterine hemorrhage, rush of blood to the head, and sleepless, anxious restlessness of weakly persons. He also suggested using negative mesmerism (discharge of the vital force that is excessively accumulated in individual parts of the system) in cases of spasms, cramps, convulsions, and suffocations.
3. Mesmerism can enhance the action of homeopathic remedies by increasing their susceptibility and receptivity. It can also prevent or remove any obstacles or aggravations that may hinder the cure.
4. Mesmerism can also be used for mental and spiritual healing, as it can induce states of trance, clairvoyance, and intuition. It can also help to access the subconscious mind and resolve any emotional or psychological conflicts.
5. During case taking,To help the patient to focus on their symptoms, which can make it easier for the homoeopath to select the correct remedy.
6. To relax the patient and improve their receptivity to the remedy.
7. To help to distribute the remedy throughout the body.
8.To strengthen the patient’s vital force.
9. To relieve pain and promote healing.
