Negative mesmerism is a method of animal magnetism, also known as mesmerism, that was invented by German doctor Franz Mesmer in the 18th century. It is based on the idea that there is an invisible natural force (Lebensmagnetismus) possessed by all living things, and that this force can be discharged or reduced by making a rapid motion of the hand over the body of the person who has an excess of it. This is supposed to relieve the symptoms of nervous disorders and restore the balance of the vital energy.

According to Mesmer, negative mesmerism can be performed by following these steps:

    – The mesmerizer should be a person of good will and strong vitality, who can concentrate his or her power on the recipient.
    – The recipient should be a person who suffers from an accumulation of vital force in some parts of the body, causing irritation or inflammation.
    – The mesmerizer should hold his or her hand parallel to, and about an inch distant from, the body of the recipient, starting from the top of the head and moving down to the tips of the toes.
    – The mesmerizer should make a very rapid motion of the hand, as if brushing off something from the surface of the body.
    – The mesmerizer should repeat this process several times, until he or she feels that the excess vital force has been discharged or distributed evenly.
    – The recipient should feel a sensation of relief, calmness, or cooling in the affected parts.

This is how negative mesmerism is supposed to work according to Mesmer’s theory.

Mesmerism is a therapeutic method of communication of human power upon the human organism by a well-intentioned person powerfully exerting his will. The means by which the power is communicated is called passes. Mesmerism was developed by Franz Anton Mesmer, a physician who worked with a vital, moving “universal fluid” that was present everywhere and could affect the health and well-being of people.

Homeopathy is a system of medicine that is based on the principle of “like cures like”, meaning that a substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person can cure those symptoms in a sick person. Homeopathy was founded by Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician who was influenced by the ideas of Mesmer and Swedenborg.

The necessity of mesmerism in homeopathy can be understood from the following points:

    1. Mesmerism can act homoeopathically by producing symptoms similar to those of the diseased states to be cured. It can also distribute the vital force uniformly throughout the organism, when it is in abnormal excess in one part and deficient in other parts. It can also restore the vital force to some weakened part or to the whole organism.
    2. Mesmerism can be used as an ancillary measure in cases where homeopathic remedies are not sufficient or available. For example, Hahnemann suggested using positive mesmerism (influx of more or less vital force into the patient) in cases of uterine hemorrhage, rush of blood to the head, and sleepless, anxious restlessness of weakly persons. He also suggested using negative mesmerism (discharge of the vital force that is excessively accumulated in individual parts of the system) in cases of spasms, cramps, convulsions, and suffocations.
    3. Mesmerism can enhance the action of homeopathic remedies by increasing their susceptibility and receptivity. It can also prevent or remove any obstacles or aggravations that may hinder the cure.
    4. Mesmerism can also be used for mental and spiritual healing, as it can induce states of trance, clairvoyance, and intuition. It can also help to access the subconscious mind and resolve any emotional or psychological conflicts.
    5. During case taking,To help the patient to focus on their symptoms, which can make it easier for the homoeopath to select the correct remedy.
    6. To relax the patient and improve their receptivity to the remedy.
    7. To help to distribute the remedy throughout the body.
8.To strengthen the patient’s vital force.
    9. To relieve pain and promote healing.

Positive mesmerism is a type of non-verbal communication of human power upon the human organism by a well-intentioned person powerfully exerting his will. The means by which the power is communicated is called passes. Positive mesmerism is characterized by influx of more or less vital force into the patient by positive pass. Positive pass consists of a single pass made, without much exertion of will, with the palms of the hands not too slowly from the top of the head downwards over the body to the tips of the toes.

Positive mesmerism can be used for various purposes, such as treating uterine hemorrhage, rush of blood to the head, sleepless, anxious restlessness of weakly persons, or when an internal chronic dyscrasia has transferred its important local symptoms.

The process of positive mesmerism can be summarized as follows:

    1. The mesmerist and the patient should be in a comfortable and quiet environment, free from distractions and noise.
    2. The mesmerist should establish eye contact with the patient and induce a state of trance using gaze, fascination, or other methods.
    3. The mesmerist should place his palms on the patient’s head and gently stroke downwards over the body to the tips of the toes, repeating this motion several times.
    4. The mesmerist should focus his will and intention on transferring vital force to the patient and restoring harmony in the patient’s organism.
    5. The mesmerist should observe the patient’s reactions and adjust his passes accordingly. Some signs of positive mesmerism are warmth, tingling, relaxation, calmness, or somnambulism in the patient.
    6. The mesmerist should end the session by making a few upward passes from the toes to the head, breaking eye contact, and gently waking up the patient.
