Nephrolithiasis is a medical condition that refers to the formation of kidney stones in the urinary tract . Kidney stones are hard deposits made of minerals and salts that form inside the kidneys. They can cause a variety of symptoms, including severe pain in the back, flank, or groin, nausea and vomiting, blood in the urine, fever and chills (if an infection is present), and painful or frequent urination. The most common symptom is severe pain in the back, flank, or groin that comes and goes in waves.
