The intestine is the lower part of the alimentary canal from the end of the stomach to the anus. It can also refer to the whole alimentary canal from the mouth downward. The intestine is a long tube through which food travels from the stomach and out of the body while it is being digested.
The intestine is divided into two main sections: the small intestine and the large intestine. The small intestine is where most of the digestion and absorption of nutrients occurs, while the large intestine absorbs water from the remaining indigestible food matter and transmits the useless waste material from the body.
