Cina, Artemisia cina, commonly known as santonica, Levant wormseed, and wormseed, is an Asian species of herbaceous perennial in the daisy family. Its dried flowerheads are the source of the vermifugi drug santonin since ancient times. Its common names arise from its known ability to expel worms. The powder is grayish-green in colour with an aromatic odour and a bitter taste. Dysphania ambrosioides is another plant with the common name wormseed, called epazote in Mexican cuisine.

The plant is characterized by its spherical pollen grains, which are typical in the Asteraceae; a fibrous layer on anthers; lignified, elongated, hypodermal sclerids; and clusters of calcium oxalate crystals.

It is native to China, Pakistan, Russia, Turkestan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.

periodicity refers to symptoms that recur at regular intervals—daily, every other day, weekly, etc. For China officinalis, periodicity is one of its hallmark features, especially in conditions like intermittent fevers and rheumatic pains.

    ⏳ Periodicity in China Officinalis

    – Marked Periodicity:
    – Symptoms tend to recur at regular intervals, often every other day or in cycles.
    – This is especially seen in intermittent fevers, where chills, fever, and sweating follow a predictable pattern.
    – Rheumatic pains may also follow a cyclical pattern, flaring up at specific times.

    – Associated Conditions:
    – Malaria-like fevers with chills and sweats
    – Neuralgia or headaches that return at the same time daily
    – Digestive disturbances that worsen periodically
    – Post-illness weakness that fluctuates in intensity

    – Important Note:
    – While periodicity is a key feature of China, some homeopaths caution against over-relying on it. It’s not the only remedy with periodic symptoms, and its use should be based on the totality of symptoms.
