    1. An asymptomatic carrier is a person or organism infected with an infectious disease agent but displays no symptoms.
    2. A genetic carrier is a person or organism that has inherited a genetic trait or mutation but displays no symptoms.
    3. Incubatory carriers, who can transmit the agent during the incubation period before clinical illness begins.
    4. Convalescent carriers, who have recovered from their illness but remain capable of transmitting to others; and
    5. Chronic carriers, who continue to harbor a pathogen for months or even years after their initial infection.
