Aethusa cynapium: This is a plant species commonly known as fool’s parsley or fool’s cicely. It’s an annual herb in the Apiaceae family, native to Europe, western Asia, and northwest Africa. It’s related to hemlock and water-dropwort, and it’s poisonous, though less so than hemlock. The plant has small white flowers and an unpleasant smell.
Aethusa in Greek mythology: Aethusa was a daughter of Poseidon and the Pleiad Alcyone. She was loved by Apollo and bore him two sons, Eleuther and Linus. Through her lineage, she became the grandmother of Pierus, father of Oeagrus, who was the father of the musician Orpheus.
