    Causes ofPelvic inflammatory disease: 1. Untreated gonorrhea and chlamydia cause about 90% of PID cases. 2. Abortion. 3. Childbirth. 4. Pelvic procedures. 5. Insertion of an intrauterine device (IUD), either copper or hormonal. The risk is highest in the few weeks after insertion.

    In women: 1. Gonorrhea can spread into the uterus or fallopian tubes. 2. Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). - Internal abscesses. - Chronic pelvic pain. - Damage the fallopian tubes. - Infertility. - Increase the risk of ectopic pregnancy.
