# vital force reaction

In [homeopathy](https://mdpathyqa.com/), [Vital Force](https://mdpathyqa.com/question-tag/vital-force/) Reaction refers to how the life energy responds when it is acted upon by an external stimulus, such as a [disease](https://mdpathyqa.com/subjects/) or a medicine. This is explained through two distinct phases:

## 1. Primary Action (Action of the Medicine)

This is the initial effect caused by a medicine or a disease-producing agent. When a remedy is taken, it temporarily alters the Vital Force according to its own medicinal properties. At this stage, the Vital Force is passive—it is being acted upon.

## 2. Secondary Action (The Vital Force’s Reaction)

This is the true Vital Force Reaction. After the Primary Action occurs, the Vital Force asserts its own power to counteract the change and restore balance. It has two forms:

- Secondary Counter-Action: If the stimulus was strong or medicinal, the Vital Force produces a state exactly opposite to the Primary Action. *Example:* After the initial cooling effect of cold water (Primary), the Vital Force reacts by producing heat (Secondary).
- Secondary Curative Action: If a homeopathic remedy is perfectly matched to the symptoms (Simillimum), the Vital Force uses its own energy to extinguish the natural [disease](https://mdpathyqa.com/subjects/) and return the body to a state of [health](https://mdpathyqa.com/subjects/).

## Why this reaction is important:

- [Healing](https://mdpathyqa.com/celebrating-5-years-of-mdpathyqa-com-a-journey-of-healing-knowledge-community/) Process: [Homeopathy](https://mdpathyqa.com/) believes that the medicine doesn’t cure the patient; the Vital Force’s reaction to the medicine cures the patient.
- Dosing: This is why practitioners use small doses; they want to give just enough stimulus to trigger a [healing](https://mdpathyqa.com/celebrating-5-years-of-mdpathyqa-com-a-journey-of-healing-knowledge-community/) reaction without causing a violent counter-reaction.

In short, the Primary Action is what the drug does to the Vital Force, and the Secondary Action (Reaction) is what the Vital Force does in response to the drug.
